Salisbury High School will be the site of two Class 1 sectional basketball games Tuesday night. The action gets underway at 6 pm with the girls’ game between Green City and Canton. Canton gave Green City their only loss of the season in the La Plata Tournament Championship last month, 76-66. The Lady Tigers were led in that game by Lauren Frazier’s 36 points. Green City coach Cody Moore says they will have to do a better job defensively against Frazier.

Green City is coming off a 67-37 victory over Meadville to capture their fourth straight district title. They bring a 26-1 record into this contest. Meanwhile, Canton is 17-10 on the season after defeating Marion County 64-43 for their district championship. Along with Frazier averaging 20 points a game, Tegan Burbridge chips in with 12 a game. Canton coach Danielle Baker says the earlier win over Green City should provide a mental boost to her team.

In the boys contest, two Tri-County North teams will renew their rivalry. Meadville defeated La Plata earlier in the season 42-38. La Plata comes into the Sectional round with an 18-9 record following 54-52 District Championship victory over Novinger. La Plata coach Greg Buescher says they are looking at different ways to solve Meadville’s defense.

Meadville’s stout defense allows just 36 points per game. The Eagles come in with a record of 25-2 and captured a district title with a 60-36 victory over Brunswick. Meadville hasn’t lost since a January 9th defeat to Salisbury. Meadville coach Drew Nier says his team’s success starts with their defense.

Coverage of this sectional doubleheader will begin with pregame coverage on KRES 104.7 and at 5:45 pm. Colin Schowe and Austin Ward will have the call.
