Canton and La Plata Softball Meet in Sectionals Again

Canton and La Plata softball meet in the Class 1 sectional round for the second straight year Wednesday. La Plata ended Canton’s undefeated season with a 4-3 victory in last year’s contest. Canton coach Kristyn Caldwell says that game is hard to ignore.

Canton will be led by Kenzie Guilfoyle in the circle.

Guilfoyle is one of just two upperclassmen starters for Canton. La Plata’s Olivia Coy, who was the winning pitcher in last year’s game, will oppose them again. Coy injured her shoulder in the state semifinal game and coach Greg Buescher says her recovery has been a work in progress all season.

Canton defeated La Plata 3-1 at the Monroe City Tournament earlier this season.
