Callao School District Opts Out of Narcan Policy

The ongoing opioid epidemic has resulted in many school districts adopting policies to have Narcan available for school nurses and security officers to use in case of emergency. Callao School Administrator Pam Halstead says her district will not be adopting such a policy.
The board’s decision came during its monthly meeting last Thursday. One of the main stumbling blocks to adopting the policy was the lack of a school resource officer and nurse at Callao. Halstead says the board could revisit the policy in the future.
The next Callao School Board meeting will be March 12th. The agenda for the next meeting will include budget discussions and evaluations.
