Cairo Takes Down Meadville in State Quarterfinals Thriller
The Cairo Ladycats upset the Meadville Lady Eagles 71-58, ending Meadville’s 59-game winning streak and sending Cairo to the Show-Me Showdown.
Meadville raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first, ending the quarter up 18-17. Cairo outscored the Lady Eagles 15-10 in the second.

Meadville got to within two points of Cairo multiple times in the third, but never tied or took the lead. Cairo sophomore Olivia Cross added the exclamation point in the fourth.
Cross scored a team-high 20 points. Macie Harman dropped 16 points before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury. Meadville’s 58 points tied for the lowest mark of the season. Cairo coach Brian Winkler spoke about the defense.

Meadville concludes the season 28-1. The 59-game streak is the seventh longest in state history.
25-5 Cairo earns its first trip to the semifinals since 2015.
The Ladycats will face 29-1 Delta at Mizzou Arena on Wednesday.
