Cairo Girls, New Franklin Boys Claim Glasgow Tournament Titles
The Cairo girls and New Franklin boys earned Glasgow Tournament titles Saturday, and the Glasgow girls sealed third place.
Cairo captured its third straight Glasgow championship with a 46-43 victory against the Marceline girls. The Lady Tigers grabbed their first lead two minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Cats answered.

Both teams headed to the free throw line several times down the stretch, and Cairo capitalized on its attempts. Lady Cats head coach Brian Winkler explained the difference in the contest.
Marceline inbounded from the baseline at Cairo’s basket down 46-43 with three seconds left, but Jordan Beck’s Lady Tigers did not attempt a tying shot as the ball stopped at the top of the key with zeroes on the clock.
Senior Taegan Bartolacci paced 3-1 Cairo with a game-high 21 points. Both Kenzie Stahl and Addison Huber scored 15 for 2-1 Marceline.
The New Franklin boys claimed their first Glasgow title since 2005 with a 46-42 victory over Slater. The Bulldogs managed to frustrate a Slater offense that had scored at least 61 points in each game prior to Saturday’s title appearance. Coach Ross Dobson revealed how they were able to slow down the Wildcats.
Slater’s offense managed take a 31-30 lead in the third quarter, but foul trouble by the Wildcats put New Franklin on the line, and they took the lead for good via free throws. Coach Dillon Yung noted New Franklin frustrated Slater in the loss.
New Franklin improves to 5-0 and was paced by Tyler Perkins’ 15 points. 3-1 Slater was led by senior Aden Campbell’s 13.
The Glasgow Lady Jackets didn’t register a single point in the first quarter, but still defeated Fayette 40-31 in the girls third place game. Lady Jacket coach Molly Monnig reflected on the bizarre game.
The Lady Jackets outscored the Lady Falcons 40-21 in the final three quarters to improve to 2-2. Fayette drops to 2-2. You can find full coaches postgame interviews below.
