Cairo Girls Capture Third Straight District Title

The Cairo Lady Bearcats sprinted to a 69-45 win over the North Shelby Lady Raiders for the Class 1 District 10 tournament crown.

North Shelby answered a 4-0 run to begin the game with a 5-0 run to take its first and only lead of the night. Cairo senior Avery Martin was the catalyst for a 16-0 run in response.

Steven Findley Jr with the call on Glory 97.3 and centralmoinfo.com. Cairo went up 43-23 to close out the first half. In the third, the Lady Raiders got to within 13 points. A steady dose of Cairo junior Macie Harman proved to be the answer.

Harman had a team-high 22 points. Avery Martin’s 18 points were boosted by a 13 point performance from Olivia Cross. The Lady Bearcats extended their district title streak to three. Coach Brian Winkler.

North Shelby senior Marissa McEwen led her team with 14 points. Coach Chris Parsons said McEwen contributed on and off the court during her career.

St. Elizabeth will oppose Cairo in the sectional round. Winkler talked about facing the Lady Hornets.

North Shelby finishes the season at 17-11. Parsons said his program will look to bounce back next year.

Cairo improves to 23-5.
