Cairo Boys, New Franklin Girls Earn Decisive Glasgow Tournament Semifinal Wins

The Cairo boys and New Franklin girls earned decisive semifinal victories at the Glasgow Tournament tonight. On the boys side, Cairo defeated Fayette 72-39. The Bearcats held Fayette scoreless from midway through the first to the five minute mark of the second and took a 31-15 lead into halftime. In the second half, Logan Head helped put the game away for the Bearcats.

Brandon Monty with the calls on KIRK and centralmoinfo.com. Head finished the game with 28 points. Cairo coach Nic Zenker said Head did a good job of scoring and facilitating.

Chase Allen-Jackman paced the Falcons with 15 points. Fayette coach Jon Bishop said Cairo’s defensive pressure disrupted the Falcons offense.

Cairo meets Westran in a rematch of last year’s tournament championship while Fayette will take on New Franklin in the third place game.

On the girls side, New Franklin outscored Marceline 30-13 in the second half in a 54-29 win. Carly Dorson, who was a game time decision with an injury, delivered 22 points for the Lady Bulldogs to lead all scorers. New Franklin coach Morgan Grosse noted the defense helped spark the offense.

New Franklin is now 4-0 and meets conference foe Cairo in the title game Saturday.
