Cairo Bearcats Win Class 1 District 10 Championship

The Cairo Bearcats won their second straight district championship with a 60-52 win over the Sturgeon Bulldogs Saturday. The Bearcats ended the third quarter on a 5-0 run to go up by 10, with a shot by Jack Prewett serving as the exclamation point.

Gage Wilson led the way for Cairo with 18 points. Colby Hale had 17 and went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Coach Nic Zenker was happy with how his team has responded to senior Jacob Davis going down with a broken foot in early January.

Davis dressed for the game but did not play. Sturgeon coach Michael Smith was encouraged that his team was able to get to this spot.

Sturgeon was led in scoring by Jacob Brooks with 20 points and Jake Snider put in 12. The Bulldogs finish the season 17-11. Cairo moves to 24-4 and faces the winner of St. Elizabeth-Jamestown in sectionals Tuesday at Harrisburg High School.
