Bulldogs Overcome Lightning Delay And Saginaw To Get To 3-0

Truman couldn’t stop a 90-minute lightning delay, but the Bulldog defense did contain Saginaw Valley State in a 21-7 victory at Stokes Stadium this afternoon (Sat.). The ‘Dogs broke a scoreless tie with 4:27 left in the first half…..

Brad Boyer with call on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com. With 2:32 left in the second quarter, lightning sent both teams to the locker room for an hour-and-a-half. The Cardinals responded, after the delay, and scored on a 15 yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds left until a shortened five minute intermission to tie the game.

It was still 7-7 early in the fourth quarter when Mason Huskey of Hallsville scored the winning touchdown for the third straight game….

That capped a 10-play, 90-yard drive. Saginaw drove into the red zone, but with the help of a holding penalty and a sack, the Bulldogs forced a 48 yard field goal that was no good. The Cardinals had one more possession deep in their own territory with no timeouts and turned the ball over on downs. With seven seconds left and fourth down, Truman quaterback Nolan Hair fired a ball high in the air to kill the clock and it landed in the hands of Tate Crane, who was all alone in the endzone, with one second left.

Coach Gregg Nesbitt’s defense held the 3rd ranked rushing offense in the country to 81 yards rushing…..

The Cardinals were 1-11 on third down conversions and drop to 2-1. Hair threw for 263 yards and became the 8th Bulldog quarterback to pass for 5,000 career yards. Crane finished with five receptions for 96 yards. Isaiah Estes of Fayette led the Dogs defense with seven tackles. Truman will take it’s 3-0 record to Wayne State, Michigan, next Saturday. We will not have a broadcast of that game.
