Truman Players Earn a Couple Major GLVC Awards
Truman Senior Brodric Thomas is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year. Thomas finished second in the conference in scoring with 20.9 points a game. He also was fourth in steals (1.8), eighth in rebounds (6.9) and assists (3.4). Thomas was also named to the all-GLVC defensive team for the third straight year.
Bulldog sophomore Cade McKnight was named second team all-conference.
The Truman State women also had a major award winner. Hannah Belanger is the GLVC Freshman of the Year, while Sloane Totta and Katie Jaseckas were selected first team all-GLVC.
Belanger is the second Truman player in three seasons to win the league’s “Freshman of the Year” award. Belanger was the top scoring freshman in the GLVC with 340 points (12.6/game) and was fourth overall and fifth in three-point shooting (.427/.424) and third in three-pointers made (2.37/2.50) this season. Belanger was also selected third team all-GLVC.
The last Bulldog to earn the Freshman award grabbed her first, first team all-conference selection. Jaseckas was ranked in six categories in both overall and conference games including scoring (14.2/15.2), rebounds (7.2/7.2), field goal percentage (.557/.574), blocked shots (2.00/2.05), offensive rebounds (2.27/2.05) and defensive rebounds (4.88/5.11).
Totta repeats on the first team, becoming the first Bulldog to earn consecutive first team all-GLVC honors since Georgia Mueller (MYOO-lur) in 2007 and 2008.
The lone senior enters the GLVC tournament with 12.8 points per game and was fourth in the conference in assists per game (4.33). She is also in the top five in conference only stats in assist/turnover ratio (1.63).
Both Truman teams start play in the GLVC Tournament this Friday in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Bulldog women face Lindenwood with a 2:15 pregame start on KRES. Shortly after, the men play Rockhurst and our coverage on KRES will begin at 5:45.
