Both the Lady Hounds and Greyhounds claimed a share of the regular season Region 16 and the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference titles with wins Saturday. The men needed overtime to beat West Plains 102-97. The Greyhounds were down eight with under four minutes remaining in regulation before coming back to take the lead.

The Grizzlies’ Sardaar Calhoun tied it with two of his game-high 48 points, and the Greyhounds could not get an attempt to fall in the closing seconds of regulation. Moberly led by a point with a minute left in the extra session before going on a six-nothing run to put it out of reach.

Eddie Creal led the Greyhounds with 22. Cortez Mozley had 19 and Markelo Sullivan had 18. Coach Pat Smith said his team was desperate late.

The Greyhounds are 24-6, and as the second seed, will face Three Rivers in Jefferson City Friday night at 6. Mineral Area also finished the regular season with a 7-1 record in Region 16 play, and will face either West Plains or State Fair Friday at 4.

DeAnna Wilson’s 24 points and 13 rebounds helped the women beat Jefferson 89-40 to clinch the top seed in this week’s Region 16 Tournament. Chatori Tyler had 18 points, and Kayla Langley had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Moberly and Three Rivers finished the regular season with 9-1 records in Region 16. The 26-4 Lady Hounds will face either Jefferson or Crowder Thursday at 4. Three Rivers will face Mineral Area or State Fair at 6.
