Boonville Football Looks to Take Next Step in 2021

The first three seasons of Greg Hough’s tenure as the head coach of the Boonville football team have played out fairly similarly. The Pirates have compiled records of either 6-4 or 7-4 in each of those seasons. This includes a 6-4 mark in 2020. That included a three-game losing streak against Tri-County Conference rivals. Hough says his team took a valuable learning experience from that stretch.
The 2021 edition of the Boonville Pirates are led by senior defensive end DJ Wesolak who is being heavily recruited by Division 1 college football programs throughout the country. Hough says they also have significant talent at the skill positions around Wesolak.
All four of Boonville’s losses last season came against teams from the Tri-County Conference. That included two defeats to the eventual Class 3 state champions Blair Oaks. Hough says his team needs to reach another level against their top conference foes.
Boonville will open the season August 27th at Pleasant Hill. You can hear from coach Hough and other area coaches during our Kickoff Show August 25th beginning at 5:35 pm on Superstation KRES.
