Boone County Hospitals to Implement Individual Surge Plans

Due to the increase of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, hospitals in Boone County are beginning to reach capacity. At this time 142 patients are hospitalized with COVID-19 in Boone County. This includes 49 patients are currently in the ICU and 21 are on ventilators. Each healthcare system in Boone County has had to divert patients, defer referrals from other hospitals, or issue bed holding status in response to the increasing amount of patients. As a result, each facility will begin the implementation of their individual surge plans. The plans may include changing staffing procedures, pausing some elective surgeries, and changing visitor policies.
