Boone County Dominates Distance, Centralia’s Erisman 2nd in Long Jump

KRES-area athletes earned 10 top three finishes at large school track and field in Jefferson City Saturday. Southern Boone sophomore Alexandra Volkart captured the 3200 meter championship by a half second.

The sophomore Volkart timed 11:15 for her second straight 3200 meter state title. Teammate Evan Mauney managed third. Southern Boone’s Connor Burns secured second in the Class 3 boys 1600.

Burns set an all-class record in the 3200 Friday.

Father Tolton’s girls 4×800 relay team topped the podium. Olivia Andrews owned the second leg.

Andrews and the Lady Blazers clocked 9:44. Ellie Reynolds ran fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. Father Tolton’s Garrett Wilmes garnered second in the boys 800.

Centralia senior Grant Erisman grabbed second in long jump at 6.9

Boonville’s Travis Dell trailed in seventh. Centralia’s girls crossed third in the 4×400 and fourth in the 4×200. Harper Sontheimer stood fifth in the 300 meter hurdles while Shelby Lewis medaled sixth in the 400.

Elsewhere in the Clarence Cannon Conference, Palmyra’s Abbey Redd and Alaina Loman landed second and third in pole vault, respectively. Loman and Redd said they benefit from competitive practices.

Teammate Candra King claimed second in discus. Macon’s Jasmine Outlaw tossed fifth.

The senior Outlaw notched 35.1 for Macon’s school record.

In Class 4, Kirksville senior Owen Fraser hurled fourth in both shot put and javelin. The Mexico boys 4×400 relay team placed seventh. See the full results and hear several athlete interviews below.
