Bill Covering Cost of Highway Memorial Signs Advances to Missouri House Floor

The House Transportation Accountability Committee has approved a bill that would have the state cover the cost of memorial highway signs for Missouri’s fallen soldiers. Representative Tim Taylor of Bunceton explains how the system currently works in the state.

The committee heard testimony from Mark Schmitz, the father of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz of Wentzville, who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2021. The Schmitz family received a bill of approximately three-thousand dollars for signs in their son’s name. Taylor says the committee acted quickly to rectify this situation.

The bill also covers the signage for memorial bridges.
