Two of the more prominent softball programs in Class 2 this season will convene in Springfield Friday with the hopes of playing in a state title game Saturday. Marceline and Palmyra play against each other for the first time since 2015 at the Killian Softball Complex. The Marceline Lady Tigers enter Friday’s semifinal 22-4, and have scored at least five runs in all but their first two games of the season. In their first trip to Springfield in program history, Lady Tigers coach Todd Lowther reveals why Marceline is so potent at the plate.

The Palmyra Lady Panthers are 20-8 and like Marceline, they also have a potent offense. Palmyra scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in Saturday’s quarterfinal against Father Tolton to book their eighth trip to the state’s final four. Lady Panthers coach Jill Arch says coming from behind is not new territory for Palmyra.

Marceline gave up eight runs against Lafayette County in Saturday’s quarterfinal before their offense ended up overpowering the Huskers. Lowther says his pitchers must locate their pitches better to win this semifinal.

Arch says the gameplan will be similar for pitchers Brooke Lawson and Lydia Althoff.

Both Lowther and Arch also acknowledged the teams experiences playing in summer ball have played a key part in helping them get to this point. The winner will take on the Sherwood vs. East Carter winner in Saturday’s state title game. Coverage of Friday’s game from the Killian Softball Complex gets underway at 12:45 on KRES and centralmoinfo.com. Scott Lunte has the call.
