Belanger Record Threes And Hazekamp Career Night Lead Truman To A Sweep Of UIS

Hannah Belanger set one three-point shot record and tied another in a Truman sweep of Illinois-Springfield at Pershing Arena last night (Thur.). The senior broke the Bulldog season mark for three-pointers in the first quarter of a 98-84 victory over the Prairie Stars….

Belanger finished with 24 points and set a career-high with 10 assists, but the Bulldogs only led by four after three quarters, before pulling away in the fourth. Coach Theo Dean said they needed good offense on this night….

Truman outscored UIS by 20 in the paint led by Alex Fanning’s 18 point, 10 rebound effort. Claire Rake hit five triples and finished with 17 points. The Bulldogs improve to 13-3 in the GLVC and 17-7 overall. The Prairie Stars are 2-13 in the conference and 2-21.

In the men’s game, Elijah Hazekamp scored a career-high 29 points to lead Truman to an 87-74 win over UIS. The key part of the game started with the Bulldogs only up 68-67 with 5:40 left….

After a timeout, UIS brought their big man, Jack Weber, back in the game with four fouls. After Weber missed a shot around the basket, he said something to the official and received a technical. The Bulldogs converted that into four points making it a ten-point run and the Prairie Stars never recovered. Coach Jeff Horner liked his team getting ten more points in the paint……

Hunter Strait and Trey Shearer both scored 14 and Dylan Peeters had another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 6-10 in the GLVC and 11-13 overall. UIS drops to 8-7 in the league and 14-9 overall.
