Bayer Settles Roundup Case Set For Trial In St Louis

Days before Bayer CropScience was to face a lawsuit in a Saint Louis courtroom over its Roundup pesticide, the company says they’ve reached a settlement with plaintiffs.  The St Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the company settled out of court with plaintiffs that claimed that the popular weedkiller was to blame for their cancer.  Bayer added Roundup to its portfolio when it acquired Monsanto in 2018.  The company did not release specifics about the settlement.

Had the case gone to trial, it would have been the first heard by a court in Bayer’s backyard, with the company’s North American operations based at Monsanto’s former headquarters in Creve Coeur.  Another case set for trial two years ago in the region was postponed as settlement talks were ongoing.  Last month Bayer reported that nearly three-fourths of personal injury claims made against Roundup have been resolved or deemed ineligible.
