Barge Traffic Stymied By Flooded Mississippi River

Moderate flooding is expected along the Mississippi River in Northeast Missouri over the next 48 hours, with crests forecast for gauges between Keokuk and Saverton.  The high floodwaters have again stopped barge traffic along the waterway, six months removed from historic low river levels doing the same.  Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says that’s delaying the delivery of inputs such as fertilizer.

Steenhoek says more delays on the river stress the need for a more resilient and comprehensive transportation system.

The Mississippi River through Northeast Missouri is expected to remain at or above flood stage for at least the next week.
