Atlanta Girls Have Highest Scoring Output, La Plata Boys Get Third Quarter Spark in Wins

The Atlanta Hornets and La Plata Bulldogs played to a split in a Tri-County doubleheader Tuesday night in Atlanta.

In the boys contest, La Plata defeated Atlanta 51-48. The Bulldogs secured the victory in the final minute on Gage McHenry’s lone score of the game.

Scott Lunte with the call on Superstation KRES. The Hornets led at half by five. La Plata made an adjustment in the third quarter to put the ball into Bret Jennings hands. The junior scored 13 third quarter points to put La Plata within one at the end of the quarter. Coach Greg Buescher said Jennings’ play was key.

The schools traded buckets multiple times in the fourth quarter. Atlanta’s Bryce Teter hit back to back triples to put the Hornets on top with a minute remaining. The McHenry three and a made one-and-one led to the final score. Senior Tel Wheeler led the way for the 6-4 Bulldogs with 19 points. Atlanta drops to 8-3. Teter scored a team-high 13 points.

The Atlanta Lady Hornets had a season high scoring output in a 75-54 victory over La Plata. After a 13-11 first quarter, the Lady Hornets put up 25 second quarter points to grab hold of the game. First year coach Miranda White reflected on the offensive outburst.

Four players reached double digits for the Lady Hornets. Bryann Magers led the way with 21, Hayley Berry scored 14, and Kolbey Watson and Kyley Magers eached tallied 11. 5-6 Atlanta next hosts Higbee Friday, while 5-6 La Plata travels to Marion County Thursday.
