Atlanta Boys Snap 25 Year District Tile Drought 

After falling just ten points short in the Class 1 District 11 title game a year ago, the Atlanta Hornets returned with a venngage, taking down the Brashear Tigers 70-50 to capture the schools first District Title since 1998.

The Tigers hung tough with the top seeded Hornets. They headed into the locker room trailing by just nine and held offensive standout Roman Phillips scoreless in the first half. Jack Reeves led the way for Brashear scoring a team high 14 points.

However the Atlanta offense erupted in the second half.

Mitchell Kaminski with the calls on KRES. Five different Hornets reached double figures, with Landon Gilliland posting a game high 19 points. The Hornets outscored Brashear 41-25 in the game’s final 16 minutes. Atlanta head coach Jason White talked about what makes this year’s team so special.


The Tigers finished the season with a 16-13 record, going 5-1 in their final six games. Despite the strong end to the season, head coach Shelbi Followwell is uncertain about her future with the program.

Brashear will return three of their five starters next year. Atlanta improved to 24-4 on the year and has a date with Brunswick in sectionals on Monday.
