Assistant Chief of the Boone County Fire Protection District Bryant Gladney was killed while responding to a box truck that was on its side on Interstate 70 in Boone County early Wednesday morning. The 55-year-old Gladney arrived shortly before 5 am along with a University Hospital Ambulance on westbound I-70, just west of the 135.4 mile marker. However, a tractor-trailer truck driven by 64-year-old Kevin Brunson of Kansas City failed to slow for the scene and struck the rear of Gladney’s vehicle. The resulting collision involved all four vehicles at the scene and flipped Gladney’s vehicle. Gladney was transported to University Hospital in Columbia where he was pronounced dead approximately 30 minutes later. No one else was injured in the accident.
