A 19-year law enforcement officer and Army veteran, Chris Wertz has announced his candidacy for Randolph County Sheriff. Wertz will file on the Republican ticket. Current Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols has announced that he will not seek another term. Wertz is a sergeant and supervisor with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office where he has served since 2001. Prior to that, he was with the Huntsville Police Department.

Wertz began his service in December of 1989 in the Missouri Army National Guard and Active Army. He is a war veteran having served in a number of foreign countries including Panama, Italy, and three deployments to the Middle East which included Kuwait, Iraq and Qatar. Wertz has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant First Class and is a Military Police advisor to a Brigade Command Staff.

Wertz completed his law enforcement training at MACC, received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, and instructor certification with the Missouri Police Officers Training and the U.S. Army Military Police and with the National Law Enforcement Training Center. He is also the Commander and Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2654.

Wertz and his wife Rhonda have five children and two grandchildren. Filing for the August 4th, 2020 primary begins February 25th of next year.
