Area Underclassmen will Play Important Roles for Truman Softball

When the Truman State softball team opens the new season at the St. Cloud Tournament this weekend a trio of area players will be in the mix for extensive playing time. McKenzie West of Monroe City and Annabel Zimmer of Kirksville came in as freshmen last year, but the season was cut short by the pandemic after 12 games. Second year coach Amanda Bradberry says West will both pitch and play outfield….

West got off to a hot start last year with four doubles, three home runs and a .432 batting average. Zimmer appeared in five games last year and got one start. Coach Bradberry expects her workload to increase…..

True freshman Logan Blevins from Mexico will be in the mix at first base….

Taylor Spencer of Columbia will be one of the Bulldog catchers.

It seems strange that a February softball tournament will be held in St. Cloud, Minnesota; especially with temperatures this weekend well below zero. Bradberry explains how it will happen….

Coach Amanda Bradberry and the Bulldogs will play doubleheaders with Minnesota-Crookston on Friday, St. Cloud on Saturday, and Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday. Truman was picked 9th in the GLVC Presseason Softball Poll.
