Work has been going on since early August on the Middle Fork Chariton River and Overflow bridges. On Wednesday, contractors with MoDOT plan on switching traffic onto the new portion of those bridges. While the bridges will remain open during the switch there is expected to be lengthy delays, and MoDOT encourages motorists to find alternative routes Wednesday if possible. A flag man will be present along with the current signals, and the speed limit dropped to 35 mph. Once all traffic has been switched, the temporary signals will resume, and the speed limit will go to 50 mph. Contractors plan to have the bridges open to two-way traffic by late February, weather permitting.
