The Gans Creek Classic was the only meet this season where Sharp didn’t finish in first place. However, the previous experience allowed Sharp to run out to an early advantage as she crossed the finish line a full 26 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Last year, Sharp finished fifth in the Class 2 meet with a time of 20:56. Sharp says her previous state experience prepared her for this year’s race.

With Saturday’s win Sharp became Brookfield’s first ever state champion in cross country. It also marked her second individual state title. Last spring she captured a state track title in the 1600 meters. Sharp says she keeps fit throughout the year.
