35 Big K Individuals, 11 Relay Teams Bring Home State Track Medals Saturday
35 Big K athletes came home from the MSHSAA State Track & Field Championships with individual medals Saturday and 11 relay teams clinched All-State status. Junior Asher Buggs-Tipton of Green City had his perfect run through the state track tournament come to an end but still nabbed four medals, including a state championship in 100 meter hurdles.
He took second in 300 meter hurdles, third in long jump and seventh in the 100 meter dash. Schuyler County’s Hayden Dixon broke a state shot put record with a 19.75 meter throw.
Dixon won a state championship in discus Friday. Fellow Schuyler County discus state champion Kait Hatfield finished fourth in shot put to lead three Lady Rams clinching All-State status in the event. Mizzou commit Jennifer Hinkle of Knox County won the state championship in javelin.
Four Westran field athletes brought home medals.
That was Langden Kitchen, who took third in shot put. Brenin Howell placed second, Emma Wortman finished third in high jump and Roland Brown grabbed 8th in triple jump. Salisbury’s Cooper Francis took third in high jump and fourth in triple jump.
Fayette’s Chase Allen-Jackman was fourth in the 100 meter dash.
Whitney Shinn of North Shelby grabbed four medals on the day, placing fourth in the 200 and 400 meter, fifth in 100 meter and being a member of the fourth place 4×400 relay team. Class 1 team finishes included the Brunswick girls in sixth and Green City boys in seventh. The Schuyler County girls took sixth and Westran boys 10th in Class 2.
