CITY OF MOBERLY TO INCREASE WATER QUALITY TESTING IN THREE LAKES

Due to reports of increased levels of blue-green algae in Missouri Lakes the City of Moberly is planning to expand weekly water quality testing at Rothwell, Sugar Creek, and Water Works Lakes. While 2018 tests indicate low levels of blue-green algae in Rothwell and Water Works Lakes, and below detection level at Sugar Creek Lake, the city has chosen to expand their weekly testing for all three lakes. Blue-green algae can produce the toxin microcystin (micro-sis-tin), which can be harmful to drinking and irrigation water supplies. The City of Moberly will work in cooperation with the Lakes of Missouri Volunteer Program to monitor the lakes. The city will post results of the tests as they are obtained.
