COLUMBIA MAN ARRESTED AFTER FOOT PURSUIT

A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday after a foot pursuit. Multiple media outlets report that an officer with the Columbia Police Department saw a vehicle without a front license plate and attempted to stop it Tuesday afternoon, but the vehicle fled. The officer did not pursue in his vehicle, and the driver then got out and fled on foot from Lakewood Apartments in the 200 block of Old 63 North, when the officer began the foot pursuit. The moving vehicle continued and struck playground equipment in the area, but no one was injured.

Police took the driver, 26-year-old Lamont Boone of Columbia, into custody. He was taken to a local hospital after reporting pain and fainting, but he was not injured. Boone was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, first degree endangering the welfare of a child, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license. Boone was taken to the Boone County Jail after his release from the hospital.
