With Lliteras’ familiarity with the overall academic and athletic program at Jewell, he returned to the school knowing what to expect on that front. He talked about changing the culture of his football team. Part of that effort includes a daily reminder hanging in the locker room.
Junior quarterback Will Schneider returns, having thrown for 1,517 yards and 14 touchdowns a year ago, adding another 445 yards on the ground. Lliteras has seen his signal caller mature.
Lliteras had a coaching stint at Harrisonville High School, including a matchup with Moberly in the state playoffs.
Jewell returns 38 letterwinners from last season, as well as 16 starters. Second-team All-GLVC selections senior defensive back Donte’ Colum and senior linebacker Antonio Wabanimkee will help anchor the Cardinals’ defense, as well senior defensive lineman Major Walker, an honorable mention All-GLVC choice, who recorded four tackles-for-loss and five blocked kicks in 2018. Honorable mention All-GLVC punter Dalton Dye returns as well, averaging almost 40 1/2 yards per boot last season.
Jewell opens the season by hosting Southwest Baptist September 7th, with their first road test at new conference foe Lindenwood on September 21st. The Cardinals play host to Truman State on October 26th, and wrap up the regular season at Quincy on November 16th.
