DRIVER DENIES BEING DRUNK PRIOR TO ARREST

A suspected drunk driver denied being drunk before being arrested in Moberly Monday. The Moberly Police Department says around 7:30pm, an officer saw a vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in the area of Franklin and Johnson Streets, running off the road at one point and nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle. The officer pulled over the vehicle, and found the driver, Shawn Malone, had signs of intoxication. Malone was immediately uncooperative and denied being intoxicated, but an empty whiskey bottle was found next to the driver’s seat.

Malone was arrested for driving while revoked and driving while intoxicated, and found to have 10 prior convictions for driving while suspended or revoked, and two for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to Moberly Regional Medical Center due to his level of intoxication prior to being taken to the Randolph County Justice Center. Malone faces felony charges of driving while revoked and persistent driving while intoxicated, with bond set at $10,000.
