DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS MEET 2017 STATE CHAMPS IN SHOW-ME SHOWDOWN

A year to the day after playing in last year’s state semifinals, the Van-Far Indians are back at JQH arena to face the Oran Eagles Friday morning. At 22-7, Van-Far returns to Springfield with last year’s state title game hero in Trey Miller. Indians head coach Pat Connaway says he expects his star junior to have an impact in the semis.

All five of the Van-Far starters are over six feet tall, as opposed to Oran who has only one player over six feet. Connaway says leaning on their height will be one of the team’s keys.

At 29-1 Oran comes to Springfield having won its last 21 games. They are led in scoring by senior Jacob Shoemaker who gets 23 points a contest. Shoemaker is also one of two Eagles that played in the 2017 Show-Me Showdown. Jacob’s father and head coach Joe Shoemaker talks about having that experience.

Oran averages over 15 assists a game and is a team Joe Shoemaker calls unselfish. He also says they have clear goals for the weekend.
