DEZI SCORES 42-THIRD TIME A CHARM FOR THE LADY SPARTANS VERSUS HANNIBAL

Dezi Jones flirted with his own school scoring record and the third time was a charm for the Lady Spartans, as Hannibal and Moberly split an NCMC doubleheader Friday night at Moberly High School.

Jones scored 42 points in a 65-53 victory over the Spartans….

Brad Boyer with the call on KWIX-KRES and centralmoinfo.com. That run ended up being 11 in a row and delivered the knockout punch extending the Pirates lead to 17 in the fourth. Jones came up three points short of his single-game record of 45 he scored against Marshall last year. Moberly coach Cord Hagedorn said the Hannibal senior took over after this team grabbed an 18-11 first quarter lead….

Hagedorn got 22 points from Braeden Wetrich and 16 from Andre Bell. The Spartans drop to 11-7 and 3-3 in the NCMC ahead of a 3rd place matchup with Southern Boone in the rescheduled California Tournament Saturday. Hannibal sweeps the Spartans in the regular season and improves to 13-4 and 5-1 in the conference.

After dropping the first two games versus Hannibal, the Moberly Lady Spartans edged the Lady Pirates 42-39. In the last minute leading by three, Sydney Flood was fouled, but missed the front end of a one-and-one. Hannibal got the rebound but Sydney Baughman got a tie up and Moberly had the arrow. Lauren Koenig was fouled and hit both free throws to clinch the win. Koenig came off the bench for a game-high 13 points for coach Tony Vestal….

Mary Billington added 12 for the Lady Spartans. Moberly improves to 13-7 and pulls even with Hannibal at 4-2 in the conference. The Lady Pirates got 12 from Bella Falconer and drop to 9-7.
