Katie Jaseckas recorded her first double-double of the season and Maddie Re’s big bucket with 2:10 left to play gave the Truman Women’s Basketball team a 66-57 win over #4 (NAIA) Columbia (Mo.) College on Wednesday night.
Truman had four 10-point leads with the last one coming at the 1:58 mark of the third quarter at 53-43 but the pesky Cougars closed to within two on a basket by Ashlee Marlatt early in the fourth. The Bulldogs were able to keep the Cougars at bay until Morgan Brandt scored to make it 60-57 with 2:22 showing. Brandt missed the free throw and Re was set up under the hoop by Sloane Totta on Truman’s next possession. Jordan Alford missed a floater in the lane and Jaseckas buried a triple to give the ‘Dogs some breathing room. Jaseckas added a free throw later to finish with 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was her eighth career double-double.
Truman benefited from the free throw line outscoring the Cougars 22-5 at the stripe and pulled down 12 more rebounds. Re finished with 13 boards, her fourth double-figure rebounding night of the season.
Reagan Wieser led the Cougars with 12 points. It was an exhibition game for Columbia College and they remain 8-1 on the season.
The Bulldogs move to 9-1 for the first time since the 2007-08 season. They will take 11 days off from game action for semester finals and return to the court on December 17 against Palm Beach Atlantic in the Florida Cruizin Classic event in Fort Lauderdale.
