The State Board of Education announced Tuesday that Margie Vandeven will return to her role as commissioner for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The rehiring comes nearly one year after Vandeven was ousted from the position, in part due to an effort by then-governor Eric Grietens to get her fired. Vandeven is the sixth individual and the second woman to serve as commissioner. She received the position on January 1st, 2015 and served for nearly three years. Paris Superintendent Aaron Vitt had this reaction.
