NEW ERA-SAME LOFTY EXPECTATIONS FOR CENTRALIA SOFTBALL

A new era of softball is underway at Centralia, but the same lofty expectations remain. In the offseason, four-time state champion Jill Angell resigned as varsity coach and was inducted in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Kendra Murphy departed Hannibal High School to come lead the Lady Panthers. Even though Angell remains with the program as middle school coach, Murphy says this is an important preseason to establish her way of doing things.

While there is some turnover in the lineup from another 20-win season, Murphy’s lone senior returns to the pitching circle in Gwendolyn Bostick.

The new Centralia head coach says when Mallory Smith’s bat was hot this summer the team had success. Murphy says the unique makeup of her batting order will put pressure on the opposing defense.

Kendra Murphy and the Centralia softball team will open the season by hosting Macon on August 27th, before visiting Blair Oaks the next night.

Our Softball Warm Up Show will air Saturday, August 18th at 1pm on Superstation KRES and centralmoinfo.com.
