Burton replaces Jon Bishop, who accepted the Fayette job in April after 10 years as the Higbee boys coach. Bishop also assisted Burton’s Higbee girls team. Burton says he recognizes there will be difficulties with two programs.
Given his dedication to Higbee basketball, Burton notes he’s excited to grow his role. Burton has started several events in recent years to both promote the program and raise funds. Higbee has a youth camp scheduled for May 21st through May 23rd.
Burton says these efforts will benefit his girls and boys teams.
Burton’s 2016-17 Higbee girls team landed in the mid-season rankings for the first time in 34 years, and their Northwestern Tournament title also marked the first Lady Tigers championship in 30-plus years. The Higbee boys finished 14-11 this year. Hear a full interview with Higbee coach Tanner Burton below.
