FOUR-VEHICLE CRASH CAUSES THREE SERIOUS INJURIES ON I-70

A woman and a girl from Colorado, and a woman from Kansas suffered serious injuries in a four-vehicle accident at the 127 mile marker of eastbound I-70 in Columbia about 8:40 last (Fri) night. The crash also involved a semi driven by Vernon Borg of Cairo and a pickup driven 28-year-old Evan Brocksmith of Fulton, but neither man suffered injuries. The Columbia Police Department reports traffic was stopped or at a stand still on eastbound I-70 when a semi driven by 46-year-old Gary Mims of Kansas City struck the back of an SUV with five passengers, including the two Colorado residents and Kansas woman who suffered serious injuries. The driver of the SUV, 60-year-old Rick Mitchell of Maize, Kansas, suffered minor injuries and the fifth individual was not injured. The report says the SUV left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. The SUV also struck the Fulton man’s truck, and Mims’ semi also struck Borg’s semi. The crash blocked both lanes of I-70.
