The Tri-County Conference remains at eight, after one mid-Missouri school decided against leaving Tuesday night. By a 4-3 vote, the Morgan County R-Two School Board voted Tuesday night to retain membership in the Tri-County Conference. That means Versailles, which helped form the conference in the late 1950s, will decline an invtation to join the new Ozark Highlands Conference in 2018. Supporters of the move said that the school’s dwindling enrollment was causing Versailles to become less competitive, while opponents cited tradition and the uncertainty of the new conference’s direction.
With Warsaw’s future departure, the Boonville Board of Education voted in December to join the Tri-County Conference in the 2018-19 school year.
The Tri-County Conference currently includes area schools Hallsville and Southern Boone.
