For the second time in as many decades, the Boonville Pirates will hoist their flag with a new conference. Boonville’s school board voted Tuesday night to accept an invtation to join the Tri-County Conference, beginning in the 2018-19 school year. Superintendent Doctor Mark Ficken says a committee of board members, after receiving input from coaches, athletes and community members, found several benefits to making the move.

Boonville will leave the North Central Missouri Conference, which it joined in 2007 after 36 seasons in the Missouri River Valley Conference. Ficken says he doesn’t anticipate any issues arising in the transition out of the NCMC.

An opening in the Tri-County occurred after Warsaw announced it would leave to establish the Ozark Highlands Conference. Versailles’ school board discussed an invitation to join that conference at its meeting Monday. Boonville board members and administrators noted that two other NCMC members, Fulton and Marshall, had also expressed interest in joining the Tri-County should Versailles also move.
