A project being conducted at the Greenley Research Center near Novelty is looking at the feasibility of using subsurface drip irrigation instead of overhead systems in soybean fields. Dr. Kelly Nelson says the research started last year.

Nelson says they’re looking at how drip irrigation works on sloping fields, and if it can be cost effective. Preliminary figures suggest it might be more cost effective for plots smaller than 60 acres.

Nelson says they are also looking at spacing differences in laying the drip lines. The Missouri Soybean Research Council is sponsoring the research.
