Columbia College named its basketball floor at Southwell Complex “Bob Burchard Court” in a ceremony prior to Wednesday’s game. Burchard owns 703 career wins after 5th-ranked Columbia College defeated Philander Smith College 97-90. In addition to the presentation of Burchard’s name on the arena court, the school honored the 28-year Cougars coach with a 700th victory basketball to represent Columbia College’s 98-33 win at St. Louis College of Pharmacy December 5th. The Cougars are off to a 13-1 start after 12 straight wins to open the season. In the preseason, Burchard compared the 2015-16 team’s potential to the great Columbia College squads of recent years.
The three-time Hall of Famer ranks third among active NAIA men’s coaches in wins, and Burchard’s Cougars seek a sixth straight NAIA National Tournament appearance. Columbia College next visits Missouri Baptist Saturday.
