Lady Spartans Celebrate Tournament Championship, Turn Attention to Macon Tournament
For the first time since 2012, the Moberly Lady Spartans have won a regular season basketball tournament. Moberly captured the Warrenton Winter Shootout Championship Thursday night with a 48-42 over the hosts. Moberly coach Tony Vestal said Mary Billington came up huge in the championship game.
With the win the Lady Spartans avenged a 55-48 loss to Warrenton back on December 28th. Billington’s 32 points against Warrenton eclipsed her previous career-high of 31 points which she notched in the team’s 57-49 opening round victory over Francis Howell North. Vestal said other players had standout performances during the Warrenton Winter Shootout.
The three wins Moberly racked up at Warrenton ran their record to 6-6 on the season. The Lady Spartans will now turn their attention to the Macon Girls Tournament and an opening round matchup with Kirksville.
Kirksville defeated Moberly in an NCMC contest earlier in the year 44-43. Tipoff of Monday night’s game is scheduled for 9 pm. We’ll have coverage of all four opening round games on 99.9 The Captain and centralmoinfo.com beginning with Centralia against Brookfield at 4:20 pm.
