10-MONTH-OLD IN CRITICAL CONDITION – MOBERLY MAN ARRESTED AFTER CALL TO CHILD ABUSE HOTLINE
A 23-year-old Moberly man was arrested Sunday morning following a call to the child abuse hotline. Randolph County Children’s Division learned a 10-month-old baby had been flown from Moberly Regional Medical Center to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment, and was in critical condition after trauma to the brain along with injuries to the face and body. An investigation revealed the child was left in the care of the man Saturday night, and was taken to the hospital after the mother noticed abnormal behavior and injury when the child was returned to her. The man admitted to officers he became angry with the child when she continually cried, striking her numerous times with items that included a cell phone and a metal tool box. The man was taken into custody and faces a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held without bond in the Randolph County Jail.
