An Adair County jury has been listening to witnesses in the murder trial of a Macon man accused of killing a Paris man. 27-year-old Lucas Summers is charged with second degree murder, three counts of first degree assault and first degree burglary.
The case was moved from Monroe to Adair County on a change of venue. Judge Russell Steele is presiding during the trial.
Summers and three other men are charged in connection with the incident, which happened in March 2009. 23-year-old Jerome Herrin was killed in the incident. Prosecutors say Herrin and another man were allegedly involved in an argument over the phone with five males and a female, who were in Clarence. Authorities say the six subjects, including Summers, drove to the Paris area and assaulted Herrin and the other man.
Monroe County Prosecutor Nicole Volkert recently told KWIX Radio's Ari Temkin that the amended felony murder charge was assessed because of the new DNA results which indicate that Summers was also present inside the home.
