VETERANS RECEIVE GIFT FROM DOC INMATES AND STAFF

25 residents at the Mexico Veterans Home received a surprise last Friday when Missouri Department of Corrections' staff delivered Restorative Justice stockings filled with goodies.

DOC spokesman Chris Cline emphasizes that all raw materials used in the restorative justice program are donated. He says Algoa Correctional Center inmates made the 25 stockings, and ACC staff donated items inside them. He says the veterans' response was overwhelming:

There are numerous other examples of restorative justice projects in Missouri. Some prisoners provide backpacks for foster children, and others provide blankets for autistic children. Several prisons have gardens, where produce is donated to the needy as well as food banks, nursing homes and domestic violence shelters.

KWIX Radio reporter Brian Hauswirth interviewed Missouri Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Cline about the Restorative Justice program. Click here to listen to Brian's full interview with Mr. Cline, which was recorded in December 2011:
