Former Moberly All-State shortstop Tanner Wetrich earned a silver medal with the Iowa baseball team at the World University Games in Taiwan in late August. First, Wetrich explains what the World University Games are.

Wetrich and the Hawkeyes lost to Japan 10-0 in the final game. Iowa became the first American representative to reach the gold medal game when it topped the Czech Republic 8-4 in the semifinals. Wetrich reflects on his silver medal.

Being from a small community, the Moberly native recalls a specific moment when he stopped to appreciate his role as a Division I shortstop opposite international athletes.

Wetrich started his collegiate career with Second Team All-American Midwest Conference accolades at William Woods then transferred to Mineral Area for his sophomore season. The former Moberly shortstop committed to the University of Iowa baseball team in October and remains in contention for a starting spot.
